Job Overview
LaBella Associates Planning Group seeks a Planner to join our Downtown Syracuse office, located in the heart of the Armory Square neighborhood. The Planning Group at LaBella Associates provides tailored services in community & neighborhood planning, downtown development strategies, zoning regulations, active transportation planning, resiliency planning, public/private development services, and grant services to a variety of municipal and private clients in addition to serving internal LaBella divisions.
The ideal candidate will have experience in community planning, zoning, public consultation, and GIS. The candidate may also participate in a broad range of other planning services offered by LaBella Associates including revitalization planning, housing analysis and grants. Excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills are essential for the position.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with an eagerness to learn any of these duties. Some of the duties the candidate may be involved in include:
- Assisting in preparing reports and analyses including land use plans, strategic downtown/economic development plans, and area/neighborhood plans.
- Preparing maps and graphics for reports and planning/development analyses.
- Assisting with grants.
- Assisting with environmental reviews
- Participating in public meetings and community engagement.
Desired Skills
Understanding of the principles and practices of planning and economic development.
GIS Mapping
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication
Familiarity with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
Self-motivated with an eagerness to learn

Qualifications
- Master’s in urban planning, public administration, or a related field and 2-5 years of experience. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree will also be considered;
- AICP preferred or on track to achieve certification;
- Proficiency with a variety of computer software including Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, ArcGIS, online applications and mobile applications; and
- Understanding and ability to utilize social media and website-building applications is a plus.
