About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for performing blood draws, timed glucose tolerance testing, specimen processing, and inventory management, while ensuring the highest standards of patient care and customer service.

This role requires strong technical skills, excellent patient communication, and a commitment to maintaining quality control standards in specimen collection and processing.

Key Responsibilities

Specimen Collection & Processing

  • Perform venipuncture procedures using both straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Collect, label, and store blood, urine, paps, cultures, and other specimens in accordance with medical protocols.
  • Ensure proper handling, centrifugation, freezing, and transportation of specimens while maintaining integrity.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes and accurately input patient data into the system.
  • Package specimens for courier pick-up and transport while following OSHA and DEP regulations.

Patient Interaction & Customer Service

  • Clearly explain blood draw and specimen collection procedures to patients in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Address patient concerns and ensure a comfortable and safe experience during specimen collection.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and follow all HIPAA compliance guidelines.

Administrative & Compliance Tasks

  • Maintain an organized inventory of laboratory supplies and reorder stock as needed.
  • Assist in updating patient records, test requisitions, and maintenance logs.
  • Answer incoming phone inquiries and provide laboratory results when necessary.
  • Attend required departmental training sessions and stay up to date with safety protocols.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certification: Valid Phlebotomy Certification (as required by state regulations).
  • Experience: Minimum 6 months of phlebotomy experience in a high-volume lab or hospital setting.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; 2-4 years of professional experience preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with laboratory data entry systems.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication, patient interaction, and organizational skills.
