Peer Support Specialist with the S.T.R.O.N.G. – Supporting Togetherness, Recovery, Opportunity, Nurturing, & Growth Program

Locations: Statewide in Delaware (office locations in Wilmington, Georgetown, and Seaford, DE)

Employment Type: Temporary Full-Time

Duration: March 15, 2025 – September 30, 2025

About S.T.R.O.N.G.: Join the S.T.R.O.N.G. initiative, a program dedicated to strengthening family relationships and supporting recovery for families impacted by substance use disorders. Through the implementation of the evidence-based Celebrating Families! program, we aim to promote healthy communication, coping skills, and strengthen family bonds.

Job Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Peer Support Specialist with personal recovery experience to provide guidance and support to families navigating the complexities of recovery. This role is crucial in facilitating group discussions, providing peer-to-peer support, and inspiring participants with your recovery journey.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide peer support and mentorship to families in recovery.
  • Facilitate group discussions and activities as part of the Celebrating Families! program.
  • Share personal recovery experiences to motivate and educate participants.
  • Assist in organizing and coordinating program activities, including family dinners and community events.
  • Travel within the state to various office locations as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Personal experience in recovery from substance use disorders (minimum two years in recovery preferred).
  • Familiarity with peer support principles and ethics.
  • Experience in group facilitation or a peer support role is highly valued.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse populations.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
