For one of our clients, we are looking for a Commissioning Engineer, working remotely from North Carolina, United States.

As a Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the commissioning process of utility-scale solar projects, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety standards. You will develop and maintain commissioning plans, coordinate on-site activities, and conduct inspections to verify proper system functionality. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will troubleshoot issues, track test reports, and ensure all pre-energization activities are completed. This role requires strong technical expertise in electrical systems, safety protocols, and renewable energy infrastructure.

Accountabilities:

• Develop and execute project commissioning plans, ensuring all deliverables meet contract requirements.
• Conduct site inspections and lead the interface between the site team and commissioning team.
• Participate in pre-commissioning meetings and oversee all commissioning activities.
• Proactively review commissioning trackers to ensure pre-energization activities are addressed.
• Lead site walks and manage project documentation, reporting any necessary updates.
• Coordinate craft and equipment support for commissioning activities.
• Ensure all safety protocols are followed, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and power control programs.
• Review project design documents and drawings, tracking test reports and closing out required submittals.
• Conduct audits to verify the accuracy and completeness of commissioning documentation.
• Assist in training project personnel to perform field verification during the commissioning process.

Requirements

• 4+ years of commissioning experience in utility-scale solar projects.
• Strong understanding of OSHA workplace safety practices and procedures.
• Hands-on experience with racking and tracker commissioning, troubleshooting, and manufacturer certifications.
• Expertise in inverter commissioning, SCADA/DAS systems, and communication protocols.
• Knowledge of MV transformers and other renewable energy balance of systems (BOS) components.
• Ability to interpret construction, electrical single-line, and three-line drawings, and manage RFIs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for reporting and documentation.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple states as needed.
• Certifications such as OSHA 30/100, NABCEP PV Associate, NFPA 70e, or High/Low Voltage Certification are preferred.
